I like the voice-over, it adds a personal touch to the article. Clear and concise article.

Focus on one thing at a time: this is my mantra at the moment. Thanks, Basma.

I’m so glad it resonated with you, Tinashe! Yes me too, I am starting to burn out from the amount of stress I am putting on myself. Focusing on one thing at a time really helps!

I love the voiceover Basma. Nicely done!

I saw Substack encouraging me to do this, and I'm thinking about it for the next issues. :)

As for the article, this is overall great advice. It's not easy to avoid the trap of comparing ourselves to others because we share some of the same goals. For example, you look up to a Staff Engineer and compare your skills to theirs, which makes sense because you want to get there.

So it's not black and white, and not that we shouldn't make any comparison. I think we should. We want to hit the same level as someone else in our company.

I guess people make a mistake not when they commit to a goal of becoming like X or Y but when they don't consider the timeframe they want to achieve that or the sacrifices they might have to make.

This is when we shouldn't compare. We live different lives, make differences sacrifices.

Yeah I have read that too! I also read to big creators who do the voiceover and I enjoy the experience of listening to an article read by their voice. To engage with them on their ideas.

I just wish there's an easy way to edit the record! I do a lot of mistakes while reading and I wish there's an easy way to cut those without having to record all from the start.

I am lazy so I upload them with mistakes after a few retries 😂

I totally agree, Akos. We should set some standards to ourselves. Those standards are gotten from higher status people or the more experienced. That's fine.

Like you said, what's not fine is comparing our progress and growth to others. And, that's what I meant too!

What tool did you use to record this? I’m thinking about doing my recording with davinci resolve that offers some voice cleanup as well

no fancy tools, just the record given by Substack.

But, I am thinking to use a more sophisticated tool tbh. Haven't made a good research about this yet.

In the race to growth we often put aside our mental health, at least I did. Scratch that, I still do. It is very important to acknowledge the experience along the way. I really enjoyed the part about having faith in the process, not the product.

As a brand new writer online, I go through this emotional rollercoaster more often than I'd want. Thank you sharing this beautifully written piece!

Same here, Akash! I struggle from the same emotional turmoil more often as well. Often because I want to see "fast" results, same as X or Y creator did! So, why not me?

This is the trap we often put ourselves into. The growth path of every person is different.

As long as:

- we know what we're doing

- reiterating on our mistakes

- listen to the data of what works and what not

... we should be fine! 🍀
